Quit blaming "Rusty". It really shows some ignorance when you can't account for the fact he works for a giant corporation. Do you think he really woke up one day and decided personally to close June Mountain?

Come on people.

First Intrawest, now Starwood.

It did not go from Dave to Rusty.

MM went from Dave to Wall Mart.

Who did that? :?:

I don't think it matters. Maybe Dave himself would have had to make the same decision based on economics. MMSA is a business and business must make a profit or go out of business. MMSA is not a charity or a not for profit. Rusty spelled out the economics very clearly 6 years ago and the writing has been on the wall ever since.

Dave sold it to Corporate Amerika (oops .. make that Corporate NORTH Amerika. Yay, globalism!).

Is that our fault .. collectively?

I see your point though, in the big picture. And completely agree with you.

It's our essential value system that is the primary or sole determinant of this particular outcome, right?

We should look in the mirror for the answer?

Is the solution a return to LOCALISM?

Is there a reason to believe that a locally owned unprofitable business wouldn't close?

Who's to say that a locally-owned business might not be more flexible to the community's needs (maybe being closed Mon-Wed, or offering more effective marketing, responding better to visitor-preferences and requests, eg...) than some far-off corporation that only/strictly cares about their RE- and luxury condo/lodging profit? Which might be quite obvious from the unusually high sale price that they (shockingly) paid for the operation (and that Greenspan-funded RE-potential)..

But I guess the bottom-line here is strictly the bottom-line ... profit ... and always staying in the black, eh? ROI, baby!

As we all know Dave would definitely have June Mt closed next year, don't we?

No, I'm NOT a socialist, BTW..

Yes the bottom line for a business that wants to continue to stay in business is always profit. That's pretty much the way it works. It seems like some of you feel that June should be run as a non-profit for the good of the privately owned for-profit businesses in June Lake.

Ironic to say the least!

I'm not going quite that far with it. I'm a realist. I'm just saying that a local operation might be better able to weather the economic downturns and dry seasons with a significantly increased user-flexibility (to adversity) than would some corporation that's in it merely for the maxed-out take-it-on-the-run development(al) potential..

Not sure if some might advocate for a complete non-profit, though. Who knows?

I wouldn't ski June if I couldn't use my Mammoth pass there. I think many others feel the same way.

Mammoth Pass??? What? No Black Pass for you this next season, miles?

BTW, are you finally "over" your 'De$tiny ca$h-in' dream$? Back to the cold-sober realization of 'Legacy', huh?

I do not think Rusty will be featured in Forbes anytime soon, that being said, it is his money to do with what he wants. Simply said. The sad thing is so many families have hooked their wagons to his star and it is not anyone's fault sh** happens.
