Is there any places in June to stay that are cheap (in winter) for when you are solo and only need a warm/dry place to sleep? Like a hostel or whatnot similar to the Davidson house in MM?

Nothing like Davison House there that I know of. Here is the lodging list from the June Lake Chamber site. Start calling or looking at websites.

Thanks SL.

I've been wanting to make it to June for the last few seasons but it was not meant to be given the drought....I'm hoping I can finally make it there this year (praying for snow) to avoid the sometimes maddening hoards at MM on the weekends.

As a side note, how are the typical crowds (lines) at June on weekend when there is fresh snow on the ground? I realize those days were far a few between the last few seasons, but typically during a decent season?

The line at the bottom can get long if it's a powder day and the face is open. The rest of the mountain will still have short or nonexistent lines.

Gotcha. Thanks SnS.

There appears to be some decent tree glades /off piste terrain off the top of J6/7, at least according to google maps street view. So I imagine I would be more than content to lap those areas on a pow day and occasionally running all the way to the bottom.

Sorry, I know I am sidetracking my own tread, I should have just called it June Mtn questions.

How would folks compare the trees / off piste area of J6 or J7 to the 25/9 area of Mammoth (which is my absolute favorite btw), along with 12.

The tree runs at June both inbounds and out of bounds are incredible. If you know where to look you can find fresh tracks for days after a storm

Just be careful in there when it's deep. I've lost friends in there for hours. Just ask Southbayboarder ;)

That's perfect - exactly what I was looking for. If we get a decent season, I will keep an eye out for that vantage point in my cruising.

Is that in or out of bounds, if you don't mind me asking? No worries if so, I'll just have to figure it out for myself...

Those are inbounds. There's also some good trees on The Face. Here's a good one. Get off of J7 and go past Schatzi towards Sunrise and drop into the trees before you get to Sunrise. You can go all the way back to J7 in the trees.
