We skied June today. Slightly breezy, empty, groomed way better than MM.

Skied the Face at about 2:00PM. Top half was wonderful soft snow, bottom half some dicey mashed potatoes with a slight crust. A truly wonderful day away from the wind & Saturday mahem at MM. Almost forgot how beautiful June be!

Corduroydancer was in heaven without any one skiing near her.

Perfect complement to 5 days at MM, with another to follow tomorrow.

Had a friend and son in town. Spent yesterday and today doing big swooping turns on uncrowded spring groomers. With two apres stops at JLB. Great way to bid farewell to June till next year.

I went to June today also. Very nice day but even the top got sticky by about 2pm.

4/15/17 I happened to look at the JM web cams just to see if much snow had melted at the chalet and saw this trio of tele skiers and dogs heading up. Looked like fun!

Has the opening been pushed back? I see on June's site that it now says "we're busy making snow", which is a change from "opening 12/15, weather permitting". Coverage on the cams looks decent enough to open, but maybe that's deceiving. We were/are thinking of coming up Sunday & Monday, but don't really want to deal with Mammoth this close to the holidays.

From June's FB page yesterday afternoon:

Quote:
While Mother Nature granted us with some great early season snowfall at upper elevations, we haven’t seen cold enough temperatures or snowfall to expand terrain and connect trails at the lower part of the mountain. We will be postponing opening day until we’re confident that we can offer an amazing skiing and riding experience for everyone to enjoy. Our snowmaking team has been working around the clock to help make that happen and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts. Stay tuned for a new opening date and keep doing those snow dances!

There's actually a lot of people at June. I've never seen a lot of people at June.

Given the crowds at Mammoth today, June would have been a great choice.
