There were hardly any lines on 22 when it opened. Free Refills in Avy chutes

3/23/18 1530 A nearly buried summit sign. The top never opened today due to the fierce winds. Glad to hear the wind buff was off the hook!

Today was surprisingly good. Was orginally planning to go out to Punta Bardini again today. But sitting at breakfast, we were seeing a good amount of snow falling. There was zero visibility out at the propane tanks and across the meadow, so we bailed on that idea. Got back to Chair 15 just in time for opening.

Chair 22 just opened as I got in line. Since it hadn't been open yesterday, Grizzly was filled in very nicely. I'm guessing 3-4 inches fell by the time it was all over. And with all the windloading from yesterday and today, shin deep and no crust underneath. Got back up and took a run down Avi 2. Wind was blowing, so couldn't see anything other than the ski cut patrol had put in. Soft and boot deep again. As I was dropping into Avi 1/2 bowl, there was a small storm slab that broke off and slid (R1/D1 size) - skied out of it but still kept me on my toes.

Went around and did a couple more runs - by then the crowds showed up, but not as much as yesterday. Sunshine Ridge was a little windblown - soft down below in the trees. Traversed into Avi 3 from top of 10 - wind scoured on top and soft down below in the trees again. Good day!

Had to take the kids out for the rest of the day, so didn't get to the top, but it looked like it opened up later in the day - wind died down and bluebird in the afternoon.

Sunday was awesome.

I ended up riding 23 just as it opened and got some of the first tracks on Wipe Out... so fun

3/30/18 10:30 a.m. Shady Rest was fun for a 1-hour kick and glide session, but the area is basically cooked. If I want to xc ski any more I will have to go up to Tamarack and ski the free trail...at least until the xc center shuts down for the season and before the area is opened up to snomo's (4/16 every year).

I built a tiny snow person on one of the picnic tables before skiing away.

There's not enough brown klister on the trail.

Anxious to hear how the surface conditions fare after the heavy rain this week / weekend. :x

I went up Friday, watched it rain on Saturday while playing tourist at Mono/June Lakes, and skied Sunday / Monday.
By about 11am on Monday, the snow softened, and much fun was had on mid-lower Wipes/Drops (unfortunately - I had to leave at 1:00). I didn't personally venture to Climax or Dave's but they looked similarly good once softened late morning. The groomers were fine. Chair 23 didn't open either day. With 23 closed, Road Runner around the back-side over to Scotty's, etc. had dirt patches on Sunday - I didn't check on Monday. I'm headed back up Thursday night for the last weekend of full ops and hoping for more good spring skiing.

Finally made it back on the hill yesterday (4/18) for a wonderful session with my friend Jimmy on wind-buffed fresh winter snow in springtime! Hadn't had time for any Alpine skiing since I was up there with MPB on 3/5 due to all the estate/trust stuff I've been doing for the late Jesterman and getting ready for last Saturday's estate sale (we brought in $1700!). Super fun was had!

The hill picked up an inch last night and it's still flurrying up there this morning with the top socked in. Old man winter hasn't let go yet, but tomorrow the temps will be warming back up into spring.

Made it up Friday evening. Hit it early Saturday from Chair 2. Groomers were great with
Frozen corduroy. A bit crunchy and made your teeth rattle with nice soft spots here and there.

Went down Cornice 5 times. Each time it got softer and softer. By 11:30 it was too soft.
Headed down Stump Alley. It was really soft and grabby. You really could not
glide as the snow was quite sticky at this point. Called it a day

Sunday was even warmer. Made a quick warmup down stump, then to Cornice.
It was good, but lots of frozen crud. Chatter was the word for the morning.
Did three more laps. Each lap it was softer and softer till finically it turned
to slop.

By 10:30 it was done.

Spring is here.

Went back up to Main at 5pm for the Cinco de Mayo party in the park and rode until 6:30. Really fun event and soft spring conditions.

Perfect corn snow skiing out there, was in a t shirt by 9:30. Get your skis textured and use the Snowman free hot wax at Footloose and you will have no spring bog down. So much fun in the corn and I hear we might get to ski into June as well. Yahooo 8-)

This just in! Mammoth will be open daily for skiing and riding until AT LEAST June 17. Top-to-bottom conditions are awesome right now and there's still a ton of time to get up here and get your late season turns in.
