In the comments there's a couple people convinced this was last season. The sliders on the descent in the background are acting ho-hum like it happens all the time. A safety note to those of you who lap Stump Alley: Please do not ride right under the chair.

If a person is about to fall on top of you from above and there's no time to quickly step aside, what is the procedure?

Catch them. Duh.

What is that name of that earthquake survival method, Shifty?

It seems like that could be a strategy.

Millions of fragile people have survived earthquakes (often with the help of a dog or cat) since me and that guy invented it.

Whatever happened to all the folks who helped me with that thread? Paging snowdreamer, tarkman, etc...

There was also someone totally befuddled by it ... they were skeptical of its efficacy - pfft!

Who was that?

I think they might be active.

Well the snow looks nice at least. Ya gotta jump off just a little before the chair reaches the bullwheel unless you're okay with sudden deceleration/impact with all the other chairs.

When they were gonna tear out a lift in Colorado 20 or 30 years ago they ran a catastrophic rollback test with weights that simulated every uphill chair at max capacity -- the rollback speed is proportional to that total weight so it's lucky the chairs in Georgia (Eurasia) were mostly empty.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwPP4i7ENvQ

P.S. Safest time to ride Chair 1 at Baldy is when the uploaders = the downloaders. The lift would just coast to a stop, Praise Ullr!

The safest time to ride that lift at Baldy is never. My introduction to it was watching the lifty hitting the bullwheel with a snow shovel. After that I skied down.

Or a bamboo stick to hit the limit switches on Chair 3.
One time Chair three was overheating so I went into the control room to see if I could help them. They had the control cabinet door open with a fan blowing in it to cool it down. I miss the old Baldy before the Tubing Park.

I foolishly chose to get a Baldy winter pass this season ($300) because I live 20 minutes to ski lift parking lot. They haven't opened a lift beyond chair 2 all season.

Sigh, I guess I just made a non-charitable donation.

I`m 19 miles from the parking lot also. Last year was the "last year" I was funding the tubing park.Done with that bullshit. If its great I will find a discount ticket somewhere. Not that hard nowadays.

I bailed on Baldy this year also, hardly any snow last few years and management is not as keen to open up as they used to be.
