We had a ton of fun! If you know where to explore, there's good snow all over the place.

I agree with the grizzly barfly that there was a great snow all over the place, the issue is that it rained all the way to the top and there is a nasty icy layer all over the place. The good news is you can see it and if you can see it you're more likely to be able to avoid it. But if you can't avoid it there's a price to be paid on the ice. I had a great time and we found some serious wind buff on Saturday, Sunday was a little firmer, but I also paid a little on the ice. Pray for snow!

Last Friday morning, it took me not even a full first run of the season to break my arm on Saddle Bowl. Sounds like I was one of many to head to Mammoth Hospital this weekend. If you have a season pass, it might be best to wait it out a storm or two. It's low tide.

^ Oh I'm so sorry to hear this! Exactly why I'm never tempted to ski this early in the season when coverage is minimal on the runs I ski on. Hope you heal fast.

This morning's "storm"...if you can even call it that, looks like dust on crust. Ewww. Snowfall was downgraded from 60% to 30% showers. The only consolation is that MMSA is able to blow snow again.

Does anybody know when Sesame Street might open? Thinking about coming up next week for Thanksgiving with some first timer skiers. Thanks for any response.

^ No, but my guess is MMSA is scrambling to get it open by Thanksgiving as they are blowing snow on it now (look at the cam). If the cold temps and low humidity continue to allow for good snowmaking, Chair 11 will most likely be open for the holiday weekend.

It opened today!

Crews also blew enough snow to open a few park features in the Unbound!

How is stump looking? Is the additional parking there needed yet?

First day of the season for me, and I was pleasantly surprised with the conditions. I didn't make it out until around 8:30 (got into town about 1 am...), but I found it fairly easy to avoid the crowds and never waited much more than 5 minutes.

The top is a sheet of ice, but I found patches of good snow in the rocks to skier's right of Cornice and on Climax. You need extreme caution and good visibility, though, because it's very low tide and patches of ice pop out of nowhere. It looks like they're widening Stump Alley every day since it opened, but it still gets thin, narrow, and icy at the bottom. There's a narrow line of soft snow in the 'gully' on skier's right of that run, but I think everyone else found it by the end of the day. Mambo was an excellent alternative, with lower skier density and generally softer snow. Saddle Bowl and the lower 2/3 of Center Bowl had great snow once the wind machine kicked in around 11 am. But the best snow of the day was on Fascination. Even though it required crossing the ice fields of Silver Tip, I was amazed at how few people were skiing there.

Sure, there's not as much terrain as last year at this time, but it's still possible to have a great, full day on what's open.
