On 11/11/16 my son Tim Deits suffered a heart attack at the age of 16. We found him in the garage in cardiac arrest after returning from the beach.

Immediate CPR and quick paramedic response saved his life. His heart stopped a total of three times that day. No drugs, no stimulants.
At the hospital, he was given only a 10% chance for survival. Something a parent never wants to hear. But I heard it more than once that day.

He went code blue in the emergency room about 4 hours after the initial event. They pulled me from the emergency, and surrounded me with a Chaplain, Police, LCSW;s and nurses, telling me to prepare that he will not survive. Well, he did survive.

Two days prior to his event, Hoag hospital received a right sided heart pump device called an Impella. Two of these devices were inserted into both the right and left side of his heart. This is the second time in history this has been done.

A very long story short, he survived the impossible. He was home on Thanksgiving. This weekend, we tore the mountain apart, with my Son. Hows that for a TR report?

Sorry I didn't get to ski with you and your son again last Wednesday in the rain (ha!), but I had such a good time making some turns with you both last February for his first day back on the slopes!

Thank you everyone. It has indeed been a miracle. We are so happy he is returning to a somewhat normal life. He has gone through 4 surgeries since last November. He has never complained, whined or had a moment of self pity. Remarkable kid.

We are going to Boston to meet with the CEO and board of directors of Abiomed, the company that made the device that saved his life, as noted in the video above.
Seems they want to make Timmy a poster boy for the company. Timmy is re writing the medical books on this heart condition that was up until now, not survivable.

Not only did he survive, he is flourishing.

We are very grateful to all of his doctors.

My daughter is a sophomore at Edison that knows your son...and reading your post brought tears to my eyes just as when she first told me what happened earlier this year. The story is truly amazing and surely makes any parent feel joy at his recovery. I did not know this was *your* kid

BTW I think this kind of sharing ones challenging experiences really helps a lot of people put things in perspective.
At least it did for me when I needed it. My son is schedualed for surgery this month but nothing life threatening.
