Let the fun begin:

Broadway is groomed and just about ready to roll with 12-18 inches of man made snow.

They are hoping to also have Andy's Double Gold and a run out of the Unbound open, no word on Saddle Bowl.

The road to the vista is now closed and they had some guns going over on Sesame St. and the bottom of 11.

See ya out there Thursday morning.

Have fun this weekend. I'll be watching you from CO which is about in the same shape. The Basin has about 3 runs open, one from the top and 2 off the lower mountain quad chair. I'll be setting my sights on the quad chair on Thursday and Friday morning, while the grooming is fresh and before the crowds arrive. About the same time my friends in Mammoth will be getting their first turns of the season on Broadway etc.

Be careful out there.

Debating about coming up Wednesday night and skiing as much as I can on Thursday. 65 mph with limited runs doesn't seem worth the drive... yet

Edit: looks like they changed the wind forecast... hmmm very tempting

I expect it to be scary crowded over the weekend, and I just realized the Monday is Veteran's Day. School holiday?

Normally I would think that the crowds would clean out by Sunday, leaving things wide open for making a few turns early next week. But I wonder if Monday will be fairly busy as well.

Any thoughts from those who have been through quite a few opening weeks?

Per MMSA's FB post this morning:

Quote:
#MammothsOpen TOMORROW! Broadway Express starts spinning at 8:30a with access to Broadway, Andy’s Double Gold and a small terrain park setup. Snowmaking crews are working around the clock to open Discovery Chair and Facelift Express as soon as possible. #mammothstories

Novelty wears off after WRODS. Say hello to old friends have beer eat pizza. Its barely about the riding opening day w/o fresh.
There would be a lot more heads if there was more snow and those heads would be more inclined to stay on the mountain.

Veteran's Day is on a Saturday this year, so it is being observed on Friday, 11/10. Those that have off will have Friday off, not Monday. I just received the projected occupancy report and town is only 51% booked this weekend.

I agree with 2NA on the WROD. It might be a novelty to ski a run or two, but the camaraderie with friends is what it's all about when there is not fresh snow.

Have fun everyone and be safe!

Am I dreaming or do they insist on opening earlier every year? I thought Nov. in CA was mostly a dry month so I'm not surprised there isnt snow yet.

They have scheduled opening day the second Thursday of November as long as I can remember.

I'm still kinda blown away that resorts that will (in due time) have multiple feet of snow insist on the expensive proposition of blowing snow just to hit an opening date. It's gotta be mostly passholders anyway, right? I used to be jonesing to ride anything come November so the WROD was okay, but now I'm fine waiting till the snow is decent to start clocking days.

I'll be very surprised if Chair 1 even spins this morning. The wind kept me up most of the night. Should have put in my ear plugs! Currently 30 mph at Chair 1 and 88 at the summit. It also appears to have been too warm with too high of humidity to blow much snow last night...at least there are no guns going this morning.

I wonder who camped out for first chair? :|

“in due time” is obviously relative.
Snow making makes sense cuz the investment is established. And the man-made snow is base quality snow.

KTLA interview…why camp? to "shred the gnar”….kooks
First 100 ski for free, I think the first 90 are pass holders lol.
