Looks like they can keep Stump open through Memorial day with some snow farming. Top is still great, excellent coverage and really fun spring conditions. This cooler weather has really helped slow the melt.

I was finally able to get up there this morning and conditions were super fun. Soft, carve-able snow without being too slushy (began to get thick around 11:30). Loved the storm clouds moving in. Temps were perfect without being too hot. Hoping to sneak in one or two more sessions before the holiday weekend and before we have to temporarily move to AZ. :(

Looks like the weekend hours are back to 7:30-3:30 according to MMSA's Lift Status page:

Quote:
The Panorama Gondola will be closed midweek for maintenance May 21–24 & May 29 – June 3. Scenic Gondola Rides will be available on weekends, including over the Memorial Day holiday. Hours of operation for this weekend (May 19–20) are 7:30AM–3:30PM.

After seeing how much snow Stump lost in the last two days I'm wondering if they'll be able to keep it open through Memorial day.

Tons of lightning east of Mammoth right now but nothing around the mountain. So got much softer today than yesterday and it wasn't crowded.

Detail report and pics from May 16-18: http://www.firsttracksonline.com/boards ... =3&t=12674

May 17 was probably my best corn day at Mammoth since 2013: hard freeze overnight, sunny with sequential softening of runs based upon aspect. Thus the Wipe Outs were at their best from 1PM onwards. The ultimate corn was around noon on World Cup and Andy's Double Gold after the racers were done.

The weird part was those weather forecasts. Every day was 40% chance of precipitation, snow, rain or thundershowers. We had no precipitation any of the 3 days though Wednesday had some wind and a thick cloud was on the top all day. But everything below the top went into good corn Wednesday, notably the chair 5 terrain around 11AM.

Friday was warmer: upper runs softened 1+ hour earlier than on Thursday. We left to drive home at 1PM. But it was a great trip, as evidenced by 80K vertical skied over 3 days, all of them starting around 8:30AM.

I noticed Stump was thinner Friday than Wednesday. I believe they will keep it going through Memorial Day for the parking but that will be the end. Memorial Day will be end of season for us too.

Jeri's husband and his crew will work their miracle in snow farming to make Stump last through the holiday.

It's snowing and low visibility has the top closed.

I waited for visibility to improve and then headed up about 11am. That was the slowest stickiest snow I've ever experienced! I tried to hit the race courses from the top of Stump and I couldn't even get to chair 23 without stopping even though I was pointed downhill and never made a turn. It was like having the brakes on the entire time. Absolutely awful. Visibility never did improve mid-mountain and up.
