I knew when I responded to your post who was going to respond and in what fashion. I was about 90% right. Moving on...

It's so much easier to just believe what the media tells you like "There's a 97% consensus of scientists". No thinking required.

Of course the real question is not whether climate change is real or not. It's the policy decisions about what can and should be done and what impact they may have at what costs. Certainly not something that can be done with binary thinking.

I was referring more to the over simplified notion that because someone uses a ski resort for their enjoyment, or has sponsors that produce goods, or drives a car, or eats food, or anything else that inherently has adverse effects on the environment, that they're not entitled to try to make things better, or offset their impact at the same time.

Anyway, my original post was not intended to thumb my nose at anyone, or any thing. It actually didn't occur to me that it would turn political, though I suppose that was naive. Back on topic somewhat, I simply thought it to be a cool, and uncorporate-like gesture on Alterra's part (though I am not too naive to realize their ultimate goal is for that goodwill to help their bottom line).

NO TBID ON IKON
Mammoth will support renewal of tax if season passes are exempt
By Rea
Mammoth Mountain
Ski Area’s insistence
that the future of
reliable regional air service
lies in Bishop was made clear
this week when MMSA’s Eric
Clark said that the ski area
would support the renewal of
Mammoth’s Tourism Business
Improvement District
(TBID) with the caveat that
Ikon season pass sales not be
subject to TBID. Ski school
lessons and daily lift tickets
will still be subject to TBID.
Mammoth Lakes Tourism’s
Board of Directors voted
unanimously on Tuesday,
April 3 to approve that
change to the Management
District Plan, as well as to
agree to pursue a renewal of
the TBID only for another five
years, not for another 10, as
was the previous goal.
Clark had previously voiced see TBID, page 13
SIHD voters will decide hospital’s fate on April 10
By James
After several weeks of
community workshops
on Measure J held
throughout the Southern
Inyo Hospital District, the
fate of SIH will be decided in
the April 10 special election
by mail-in ballot.
If approved by two-thirds
of voters, Measure J will add
an additional $215 parcel
tax to all property in the SIH
District for the next 15 years.
It would raise residential
property tax from $150 per
year to $365. Undeveloped

egg hunt on Sunday, April 1. See more photos, p. 8.

Mammoth Mountain’s desire
to pursue air service in
Bishop and put forth the possibility
that the resort might
withhold its support for the
TBID if monies could not be
allocated to Bishop Airport’s
attainment of Part 139 (commercial)
certification (see
“TBIDness Deals, February
10).
The TBID needs the
support of 50.1 percent of
assessed businesses for
renewal, according to Mammoth
Lakes Tourism Executive
Director John Urdi.
With the support of Mammoth
Mountain, Urdi said,
the renewal of the TBID was
currently at 57 percent participation.

The agenda bill and resolution
for the TBID are due to
the Town Clerk by Monday,
April 9.
Legally, the TBID can only
be used for the direct benefit
of the communities that pay
into it, said Urdi.
TBID paid by Mammoth
Lakes businesses cannot be
used for infrastructure at the
Bishop Airport. However, it
could be used for advertising
in cities that service Bishop
Airport (the dream is to have
long-haul flights from Dallas
and Chicago landing in Bishop)
and also for, for instance,
buses that bring passengers
directly to Mammoth.
“So, you could put up a
sign that says, ‘Mammoth
This Way,’ and you could pay
for a bus that goes to Mammoth,
but you couldn’t build
a terminal for people going
to Mammoth,” said Board
member Scott McGuire... (continued on Page 13...couldn't copy and paste the rest here...)

Control what you can control.

Headed up this weekend and bringing most of what we need for food and drink for 3 nights.

$29.5 million. :?:

They're not mailing passes out until Fall sometime. If you don't have an existing Cali4nia Pass or something like that, you have to go to the ticket office with proof of IKON pass purchase and they'll print you a daily lift ticket.

Bought ours this morning. I don't like buying passes in the middle of tax season. :(

My friend bought his on Wednesday, then on Friday went to one of the little lift ticket shacks. They gave him some RFID card (valid for three months) so thereafter he was good to go, car to lift maze.

If we have a pass from this year and bought the IKON for next year, this year's pass still works right? I feel like that is a dumb question.

^ That is not my understanding, MPB. Your current Cali4nia Pass becomes your PassCash credit card, so to speak, if there is still $$ on it. I believe you must go to any ticket window with that pass and they'll look you up in their computer and issue you your new IKON pass.

Based on everything I've read, I don't believe the individual resorts will have any ability to print the permanent passes. It's going to be like how the DMV does it--you'll get your pass in the mail from a centralized location. This is backed up by the FAQs that say what to do if you've lost or forgot your IKON Pass. The resort issues you a daily lift ticket and you interface with the IKON Pass folks to get your new one.

Quote:
If your Ikon Pass is lost, stolen or broken, please report it by emailing info@ikonpass.com with your name and pass number. You can still ski or ride with a missing or broken Pass by presenting a photo I.D. to the guest services or ticket window of any destinations until the replacement Pass arrives by mail.

As for the old pass, the Cali4nia Pass will work up until whenever Mammoth's 2017-2018 officially ends, then it won't be good for lift access any longer. But hang on to it if you have Passcash, as Sierra Lady says.

IKON Pass takes over for 2018-2019 as the only remaining option for a Mammoth season pass. So we get that in the mail in October or November, pop that in a jacket pocket, and wait for opening day at one of the resorts.

Ok, I called to make sure. What psg said is correct, my pass will work until the end of the season. Perfect!
