Looks like the only restaurant on the list that the mountain owns that I know of is Burgers -- no Campos or Sushi Rei? Glad Von's isn't on the list! So I can eat at Slocums, Perry's, Base Camp, the Mogul Restaurant, Whiskey Creek, Campos, Sushi Rei ... Where am I going to get my skis waxed?! ;)

Hey, if it brings heated toilet seats then I say move forward.

Shifty, if you don't like it, there ARE other resorts and forums for that matter.

If I spend $500 at Mammoth on a weekend (not hard to do), I am kicking in $5...so be it.

Hell, I drop that much off of the lift pulling out my hat.

The people who want you to look at it as a small percentage are the same people who believe it's FREE MONEY. What better money to waste than the free money? Don't you see? That's how we wind up with terrible government, that signs Development Agreements without due diligence, builds incredibly ugly courthouses at the entrances to towns, and hires consultants to write Tax Impact Reports that get thrown in the trash less than a year after they were paid for. The list goes on and on.

You, me, and everybody else is kicking in $4.7M new revenue to a town that currently runs on $18M revenue. That's huge.

I guess my issue comes with where the money is being spent, mainly on the subsidizing of air fare. But the MAIN issue that I have is the impact on local residents and local businesses.

Edit: And that there is no exclusion for non-tourist businesses. Ridiculous.

Yes, The "BErger" family sold "Berger's Burgers" to MMSA several years ago, hence MMSA changing the name just slightly to "BUrgers". Same menu, nearly the same servers and cooks, different manager...Ed Hurley.

At our annual HOA bbq poolside this evening (Sat. 6/8/13) a neighbor of ours who lurks here corrected me on this.

"Burgers Restaurant" is owned by Ed & Kathy Hurley. Several years ago there was an article in one of our papers that indicated that MMSA had purchased the property this establishment sits on so it was my mis-perception that MMSA owned the restaurant, but they do not. It is owned and run by the Hurley's.

Thank you neighbor for that information and there is my retraction.

The point remains, SL, the ugly building was built with putatively free money so we/they forgot to care enough to make sure the money/location/previous view wasn't wasted. I thought it apropos because CyberK built a very nice large building himself, even though it's just for storage in an industrial-zoned neighborhood.

My understanding is that all businesses in the district, regardless of how they voted, will be subject to the tax. Is that correct?

If so, the only effective action is to boycott Mammoth in its entirety. The mountain, the condos, the hotels, the restaurants, the stores. All of it, which is fine by me.

Mammoth's nice enough, but the Sierra stretch a good way in both directions. And the mountain as a business is a tired, unfunny joke, so it'll be no problem to take my consumer dollars elsewhere. Heck, I already have. Buh-bye now.
