Thanks windy,

Nope, not a guide - I just love exploring. Honestly, would you follow this guy anywhere?

That's funny cjk. Honestly, I feel like I have done one of those fly overs that you see on tv after looking at all your posts.

Nice to see those shots after 30 years. I remember hearing the old Mammoth Trail Crew guys talk about how they made that trail up to that saddle on Laurel. They didn't seem to care too much for that job. I like it because you can choose to climb Laurel or Bloody from there. I used to go down from there to Genevieve and that basin back in there. Really nice.

This old packer named Chubb had a calcite mine back in there. Jeffrey Wenger's dad owned Convict at that time. Jeffrey and Mike Morse had that whole country to themselves to pack in to. Now the trail is closed to stock use. My how things have changed.

While heading up Mt Baldwin my friend and I grabbed a bunch of those crystals. First you start grabbing all these little ones and then the higher you go the bigger they get. After summiting my buddy was taking photos and I was loading his pack with all my crystals. He had no idea until we got back to the truck and I started unloading his pack.

Great canyon but really crappy trail.

I don't know if calcite has any use anymore but it was valued for gun sights in WWII. I sometimes get it confused with mica. I think they used mica for the old electrical fuses so you could see if it burned out, The crystals sure are beautiful.

Took a hike from Sabrina to Tyee Lakes, over Table Mountain yesterday. Can't believe I had never done this crossing before - it was quite spectacular!

Ran into this; quite informative and encouraging to get up and go. PCT this year and last years comparisons.
