Post subject:  McLeod lake trail

Any intel on the current condition of the trail to McLeod? I've never tried hiking up there this early, but seems like it should be navigable this year. We're up with friends (and kids) that want to do a quick hike to a lake in the morning, and that's the first thing that popped to mind.

I haven't been up Lake Mary Road since they opened the lower gate on 5/17, so I don't know if the upper gate is still closed into the Horseshoe Lake parking lot. That area needed to melt out naturally due to the CO2 danger. You can still walk in from the closed gate, but there will most likely be some snow on the trail leading to McLeod Lake.

The hike around Convict Lake is flat and snow-free!

Edited at 10 p.m.: Found out from a friend that the upper gate is now open. Most snow has melted out in the parking lot.

There's very little snow up around Horseshoe lake so the hike should be okay probably some patches of snow along the trail.

We ended up doing it, and it was pretty much as expected. Mostly clear, and the snow patches were fairly easy to navigate over or around. A few frustrating moments for the kids, but overall very worth the additional effort.
