Shelter Distilling - new place in the Village. Looks interesting.
The principals are from Black Velvet Coffee and Mammoth Brewing - so that's encouraging.

Little Bleu closed and now the "happening place" is Big Bleu...in the old Chart House building. Had lunch there last week at the salad bar and it was delicious. Sandwich bar, soup, butcher case, bakery, tons of cheeses, wine and so much more. Much more I'd like to try. Open 9-9 daily with sit-down table service starting at 4:30 daily in the lounge area where the fireplace is. Full bar still there, too.

In the same mall, next door to Good Life Cafe, is the new yogurt place called Bongo Froyo. Stopped in to snap a few photos, but haven't tried it yet. Self-serve and priced by weight. Lots of flavor choices and tons of toppings!

Did someone say salad bar? Is it better than Mogul's? Always looking for a good salad bar in Mammoth.

Btw, we tried Samurai last time we were up and I loved it. I had the Samurai Soba. A few others in my party weren't as impressed as I was. Oh well, I will gladly go there again.

^ It's not a traditional salad bar by any means. Not sure if you can tell by what was on my plate in the photo in my past about Bleu. I love the salad bar at The Mogul, too, btw.

I would like to get back to Samurai again. Such warming food when it's this cold.I also like the Samurai Soba!

There's also a new restaurant inside the Best Western Hotel which is open to the public. It's called "The Resting Nomad". I stopped by last month to pick up a menu, but really didn't see anything that interested me. Seemed like the chef uses a lot of bell pepper in his dishes which I don't eat. Seems too pricey, also. They have a happy hour Wed-Sun.

When the first thing on the menu is a $20 burger, I don't need to read any further.

SL, thanks for all your recent restaurant postings.

well..we were all ready to hit Samurai for early dinner. Got out of the car and got hit by the smoker smell from Delicious Kitchen.
Got a different parking space and ordered some ribs; couldn't resist. The cole slaw was different with a horseradish type of mix, was good.
Been there before for Mexican food and it was rather good. They've been there almost 3 years 8-) . Not that expensive if that matters...nice people.
We'll try Samurai next time.

Did CJ's Grill close? I noticed the sign disappeared recently. Seems like they are closed more than they are open.
