I had Petra's duck confit about two weeks ago and still loved it. New sauce/prep but the actual duck (crispy skin, rich flavor) was still top notch to me at least.

My wife and I ate at 53 about a week ago. The 2 most recent reviews here are min and my wife's but I'll copy and paste mine here. One word? AMAZING.

"My wife and I just came back to our condo from 53. Wow, food porn overload, complete satisfaction. I really can't even think of the right words to describe our experience. Before even getting to the food I need to commend the service. Eddie was our server and he was remarkable. He's a rarity in these parts considering he's actually lived in Mammoth 15 years and I hope for the town's sake he decides to stay here another 15. He was very quick, thorough with his explanation of the menu, and did a great job with recommendations.

After reading reviews we already had a pretty good idea we wanted to try the pretzel bread in the stout bacon cheddar sauce but we had NO idea just how incredible it was going to be. We could have had 4 orders of this stuff and been good for the night.

My wife decided on the California Cruiser (think Roscoe's chicken n' waffles served as a slider topped with Gouda, maple syrup, and pure mouthwatering delight). I was only awarded one bite and it was phenomenal. I would've been more upset over my one bite except I had my slow braised short ribs to put my taste buds into Lala land. I've never wanted to lick my plate so badly before.

The cocktail I had "The Jimmy" was the best cocktail I've ever had. Cucumber, lemon, gin perfection. I had two and Eddie even had the bartender make a virgin "mock tail" that my pregnant wife could enjoy. We heard Eddie deal with a few other tables that seemed to be a harder sale and they all ended up extremely pleased with everything as well. Food aside, Eddie and the manager Eric are a big reason why tonight was so enjoyable.

Last but not least was our deep dish apple pie. Salty caramel iced cream, crispy pie crust, amazing bourbon caramel and delicious apples. I truly can't remember the last time I was so pleased with a dining experience, both with the incredible food and the epic service. Like Mammoth Mountain's elevation of 11,053 (highest ski resort in CA), 53 is of the highest quality. We hope this place is here to stay!"

Nice reviews! This reminds me I want to go back and try other items on their menu. Since I have passcash left I didn't spend this past winter due to our "resort credit", it won't hurt the pocket book too much!

Had dinner at 53 tonight with some friends. Started out with the pretzel bread and it was exactly as described above - absolutely delicious. Warm, soft, a little chewy with great flavor and the dipping cheese with bacon was awesome. Definitely would have that again. Maybe not split it next time :D

I had the Prime Beef LaFrieda Burger for dinner which I liked better than the World's Greatest Burger at Toomey's. Not inexpensive at $15 but about the same as other high-end places in Mammoth and SoCal. I got it with the salad which was a little small but tasty.

My friends had the Heirloom Tomato Caprese salad with the Hanger Steak for $21, Crispy Trout Sandwich for $13, and the Grilled Hanger Steak dinner for $28. Everyone said their food was delicious. We had one kid with us and he had a corndog and fries and said it was great.

Service was very good the waiter was attentive and friendly and offered good suggestions. A little pricey even for Mammoth IMO but all in all a very enjoyable and delicious dinner.

We didn't have dessert so that's a good excuse to go back. The only cocktail ordered was the Hot Mess (HAND PRESSED SERRANO CHILI, MANGO VODKA, FRESH LEMON & ORANGE) which was said to be really good.

Nice to see good reviews for 53, I'm looking forward to trying that next season.

I want to try it too MPB, after we shred the hill all day. I'll buy the first round.

I miss hanging with you, RBS, SKIPUNK and friends, even though they ditch us. But we always find the goods after that... Remember chair 9 that day?

How were we to know that you cut your finger and was busy trying to stop from bleeding all over the place when we thought you were right behind us. ;)

James Feeney (formerly of Feeney's Starlight Cafe) is going to be cooking up his fabulous Pacific Rim fare at the new/old Grumpy's now owned by Dave Talsky (of Mammoth Mountaineering, Alpine Approach and The Monkey Bar fame). Menu expected out before Christmas!

Any reviews on Delicious Kitchen? I saw the referral on Snowman's site and I did a Yelp search. Good reviews there. Sounds really small, so I'm thinking of trying it for take out. Also looking for a menu.

^ I found photos of the menu on Yelp (scroll through food photos). Heard from friends here that everything they've tried is very good. Hoping to get there for lunch this week.

Went to Grumpy's tonight to watch the Rangers pummel the Stars & got to sample the new Monkey Bar Menu. The New Zealand Rack of Lamb was perfectly cooked with garlic cloves. Absolutely delicious. Came with green beans mint chutney & yogurt, neither of which I eat. I traded one of my lamb ribs for my neighbors Asian pork ribs & that was a definite winner as well with a slight spicy kick.

Restaurant is under construction on the first floor. Grumpy's is closing maybe in a few weeks, so there goes the only place I know that gets the NHL package. If there is anywhere else that gets it I'd love to know,
