Perseid meteor shower this week:
"NASA estimates that between 160 and 200 meteors will ignite in Earth’s atmosphere every hour during the display’s peak on Thursday night and Friday morning."
"The last time a special Perseids shower like this one occurred was in 2009."

There have been quite a few nice bright Perseid meteors in the last few days so I have high hopes that this will be a really good show.

Crossing my fingers for zero marine layer. Set alarm for 3:30-4, hot jacuzzi and some coffee. :?:

Did anyone see the amazing fireball about 8:20pm? I was shooting the full moon rising over downtown San Diego skyline but looked down to change my settings and missed it. One of my friends on Instagram caught it and there's dash cam video.

Ha! I just did a quick search to see if anyone reported anything and came up dry... Then I go to check my favorite (albeit dying) message board and there it is!

I saw it dead ahead of me driving home last eve on the 405, somewhere around Huntington Beach. It might have been the brightest fireball I have seen! Distinctly green - no fragmentation. It appeared to drift very slowly across the sky, from left to right, so the trajectory must have been pretty parallel to the highway, pretty close to East at that point.

Good to see 2NA show back up for a bit as well...

Yep another Super Moon, this one is it...
The most pronounced of three consecutive supermoons will occur this weekend into Monday morning, with this being the most spectacular supermoon in 68 years. To catch the peak you will need to be up early Monday morning, but the moon will be unusually bright all weekend. For more information check out: https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/20 ... -supermoon

On the other hand the next comparable one is here before you know it..
"But the upcoming supermoon — on Monday, Nov. 14 — will be especially “super” because it’s the closest full moon to Earth since 1948. We won’t see another supermoon like this until 2034."

Not a look up! but a heads up.
GOES-R (GOES16) Is set to launch in 2 days after about a 3week delay. Godspeed. Loopers rejoice!

We had perfect conditions in San Diego for viewing and photographing the super moon. I posted a pic on Instagram.

It was "beautiful" weather for it. I saw a meteor already tonight from the Leonid I assume.
