^^^What 2NAK said... :ninja:
...and now we wait. GOES- R is pretty cool. I guess it's not one of those plug in and ready to use things.
"GOES-R, which will be known as GOES-16 once it reaches geostationary orbit, will be placed in the 89.5° checkout orbit where it will undergo an extended checkout and validation phase of approximately one year. The satellite will transition to operations immediately afterward."

Yep it's that time of year again....
"In 2017, the legendary Perseid meteor shower – the Northern Hemisphere’s best summertime meteor shower – is expected to produce the greatest number of meteors between midnight and dawn on the mornings of August 12 and 13. The morning of August 11 might be good as well. This year, however, there is a bright waning gibbous moon in the sky all three mornings. This bright moon will obliterate all but the brightest Perseid meteors.

By the way, there’s a rumor going around that 2017’s Perseid meteor shower will be the best in 96 years. It’s not true."

Nothing like a bright waning gibbous moon... :(

Your moon data is off if it's for Saturday - rises at 10:52pm and sets just before noon on Sunday so it'll be high in the sky at 4am.

The Perseids to me are the same as "Try it it doesnt taste like alcohol!" I've never seen anything remotely exciting whenever I've attempted to see it. If the moon is bright then its a good excuse to sleep in.

Is that a good thing or bad thing? I guess the Perseids are like that; they hit when you least expect them...

They always coincided w the last Summer Vacas before back to class and where ever wed be there would be elevated numbers for the trip. That makes Perseids always special.

So speaking of...
My AUS friends have Brahman hump at the butcher regularly and a smoked hump roast seems quite good. Like wed treat a tritip. Marbled tender beef. Ive seen a lot of Brahma Bulls on pickups but Ive never heard of hump carne de res.

interest fully piqued

googling around reading how it's the "next wagyu"

preparations similar to what we do for brisket

also googled for brahma hump in US and it seems totally scarce. i couldn't find a source, at least.

Hilarious headline on NPR:

Perseid Meteor Shower Falls Victim To Fake News. Sad!

:P

There's a meme going around claiming this will be "the brightest meteor shower in human history". Uh, no. Not even a meteor storm. Just an average Perseid meteor shower with less than ideal conditions due to the phase of the moon. Still fun to spend a night out under the stars. Or just watch it on TV :P

The fake metor shower story threw shade on the real eclipse story.
Its all about Eclipse 2017.

Took a 'cuzzi and swim at 4:45 this AM. Saw handful of Perseids; couple really bright.
Could've used some eclipse glasses, that moon was rather bright.
Still good excuse to get outdoors in suburbia...
