Fri. 12/15/17 For those wondering about the smoke moving in above the summit...the wind may have shifted to a SW wind which may be bringing the smoke in from the Thomas Fire in Ventura. This fire is now at 252,500 acres and only 35% contained. A young firefighter lost his life on this fire yesterday...Cory Iverson...please keep his family, friends and coworkers in your prayers. :(

Per Mammoth Times FB page (this was also mentioned on KOLO Reno News last night by their weatherman:

Quote:
Mono County, especially the southern end of the county, is headed for almost the exact same conditions that allowed the Round Fire of February 2015 to destroy 40 homes in Swall Meadows, starting this afternoon and into tomorrow; extreme winds coming in over the Sierra crest, almost no humidity in the air, and very dry brush due to little rain or snow so far this winter, according to the NWS, below. A Red Flag Warning goes into effect soon. All it will take is one spark to drive a fire out of control in these conditions. Please folks, don't provide that spark. And if something does go wrong, it is going to be very difficult to get enough resources here, given there are 8,500 firefighters and their assorted vehicles and air craft already fighting the Thomas Fire near Ventura, said Fred Stump, a former Long Valley Fire Chief and a current Mono County Supervisor. "We need to be incredibly careful," he said. "In all reality, it would be very difficult to fight a fire here with all these resources already committed."

I flew over the Thomas Fire a few hours ago going north. Not sure exactly where this is but I can see an island offshore. Yesterday it was just smoldering but this shot at noon shows the smoke blowing almost horizontally and its much more of a plume.

Regarding the bottom picture. I am guessing that is a lake at bottom left of picture, can't tell for sure? Would that be Lake Casitas?
Just a couple areas of bigger flames now...https://maps.nwcg.gov/sa/#/%3F/34.5807/-119.2786/12

Btw - PMC did get some snow today so Ben must be feeling better.
