plume of smoke heading out to sea

had to close the sunroof near jamboree cause a good amount of ash was falling

heard the smoke is also snaking around the santa ana mts and filtering into san clemente

Aye.
I have glow pix from last night. Today the smoke is more dispersed rather than a column and wind pushed outflow but I smell it more this morning.

Lots of fire up in Napa and Sonoma...over 20,000 acres I guess overnight.
Edit - News says over 50,000 acres from overnight with 3 fires in area. Many, many homes, businesses etc...
Don't know if this is true but unnerving along with all the structures burned. praying for all
Safari West in Santa Rosa is a 400 acre wildlife park. They were trying to free the animals last night. Giraffes and Rhinos, and many other animals may be roaming free.

Holy smoke, literally.

Image

Watching CalFire at the news conference, they say 14 major fires over 8 counties stretching from Mendocino down to the N Bay area. 57,000 acres.

I woke up in the middle of the night smelling smoke and it was so strong I went outside because I thought the fire was nearby, but we are 70 miles away. I almost called 911, and apparently a lot in the county did.

That one is already causing traffic problems and it's going to be a bad commute if they don't get it under control quickly. The 91 is closed at the 241.

Skipping through homes in Anaheim/Orange Hills. And w/o cedar shingles. Driving wind there. Here calm. Crazy.

I'm on the phone with my friend that's working in Los Alamitos and an emergency alert just hit his phone for a mandatory evacuation for Orange Park Acres and North Tustin. That's about 6 to 7 miles from the start of the fire.

Natural color from GOES-16. Increased the brightness and contrast in Snapseed.

I'm in Los Alamitos and just got the same alert. East Orange is supposed to evacuate as well. One of my best friends lives there and he said they don't need to yet but they're watching. My uncle lives in Villa Park, hope his home is ok.

Watching ktla live as firefighters tried to save a house on East Overlook but it's now fully engulfed. Zillow shows it at $3.8 million.

One block lost 5 homes.

This is a terrible day for many in California...at least 1,500 homes lost up towards Santa Rosa and 1 life so far.

NOAA/NASA Suomi NPP captured this imagery of the #California #wildfires using the Day Night Band on the VIIRS instrument. The imagery indicates the presence of very intense fires, and thick smoke. via FB

The nor Cal fires sure sound arson-related to me. Just heartbreaking that 15 people have died so far with so much property loss.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/10/us/c ... fires.html

You can follow the status of all these non-federal government fires here:

http://www.fire.ca.gov/current_incidents

The Lion Fire on the Sequoia NF is most likely the fire bringing us haze/smoke in Mammoth today. Expect more with the westerly winds.
