I wonder if the new management could be talked into reviving the forums by publishing them again on their domain with a link on their website? and Moderation?

Has anyone thought to ask?

Did local leadership change?

I always suspected the Marketing VP that Rusty brought it when he created that "board" determined the forum was a liability.

Same Board only Mark Brownlie is now the COO and not Rusty. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to email him and ask. mbrownlie@mammothresorts.com . Go for it, FreshPow!

To be honest, boards like these are hard to maintain. Guys like Sandiegorunner get in and create nothing but bad feelings. Then the spammers
get in, then you always have the Trolls causing problems. Surfline had forums, as did SurfCheck. We dumped all of them. Too many people with bad manners/intentions

In my opinion. boards like these are going away. Internet fossils.

Even if its a dinosaur its nice to have specific subsections for info. Not opposed to a Facebook style forum either. Difficulty in posting pictures killed this place.

That's not to say I don't enjoy these forums. I get tons of great information (see "clangers"). If people would just behave themselves, forums would be great. But the 1% blow it for everyone.

I agree. Trolls are destructive. That is why I like Facebook right now. Its easier to moderate a group. Someone trolls they get banned. No politics.I cleaned house on my Facebook account last year and chopped the heads off the trolls.
A much better experience.

Well if forums are fossils then the lack of interest in them should protect us, right? Who wants to bother trolling a quiet place when the intention is to get attention?

The thing is the Weather forum during the season does get high traffic.

And anything related to bacon.

I dunno....Maybe create a Mammoth Weather Forum. A spin off of this one? I could do that.

That would work when this collapses. Have weather links, web cams, road conditions etc. Call it Mammoth Weather 395.
They have one for Tahoe on TGR. Works great for real time weather/road conditions.

some of the criticism of the town and hill leadership likely didn't ingratiate the powers that be to the forum

i'm sure they loved suv rental and chain advice for lax arriving euro/uk visitors

but on balance, forum content could be perceived as a liability
