Why is that middle storm surf sliced in half?

I thought tonight would be a non event, but its windy and its moderately raining at times here. I thought mist was all that this storm was worth.

Update: we have already doubled the predicted rainfall total from the storm. A quarter of an inch!

10/20/17 Third teaser Autumn storm. Sun is already coming out in town. Temps expected to warm back up this weekend with higher than average temps all next week. Maybe I can go kayaking one more time this season!

Edited to add:

4:00 p.m. from Sherwin Creek Road. The top stayed in the clouds all day and Tioga Pass remains closed until they can re-evaluate tomorrow. Sonora and Ebbett's reopened earlier this afternoon.

Great news for the fires still burning.

Got .29" at a nearby reporting site. The original forecast was for .14" so I'm happy.

Somewhere in the basin reported "ten hundredths".
I doubt I got one.

Just drove up this evening, definitely winter like tonight, 28 degrees in town. Ice on the driveway. Pretty windy on the 14 driving up, it was pushing the car from side to side. Passed 4 big rigs and smaller trailer that had been blown over further up the 14 and on 395. It must have been nasty earlier in the day.

^ There had been a high profile vehicle closure up early yesterday morning after those big rigs toppled over, but the closure was lifted around 1:30 p.m. however the wind was still strong.

Temps will be warming up considerably throughout today and tomorrow and will be a virtual heat wave next week reaching into the mid-70's again. Time to kayak a few more times!

P.S.
Footloose sold to previous employees. Don't know if Corty is still going to stay for boot fitting. Their anniversary sales begins November 1st so ski/board tunes will only be $35.
The whole story is on the front page of the Sheet's 10/14/17 edition:

My friend in Osaka just texted me that she's getting heavy rains from Typhoon Lan. Unfortunately it doesnt look like that one makes it over to here. This is why. Dumb ol ridge is parking off the coast for the foreseeable future, typical La Nina.

I know it's only October but seeing that ridge parked out there makes me nauseous. That is really an ugly picture.

Winter 2017-18: Is It Time to Freak-out [Buy Bread] Yet?
After last year's relentless winter of snow, wind, and flooding people are understandably wondering what next winter will bring. Chris will put last winter in historical context, cover what we know and what we don't about the forecast for this winter, and discuss the current predictability of winter hazards in our region. We'll also have time for AaMA "ask a meteorologist anything"

Chris Smallcomb is the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service forecast office in Reno. He's the primary liaison between the NWS in Reno and emergency management, public safety, and media partners in eastern California, the Sierra, and western Nevada. He's been in the NWS for 17 years.

Id like to attend but too far for a Tuesday. Any takers willing to TR?

New Owners at Footloose are Zach and Silver. Corty, Andrea and Tony will be working for a couple more years is what they told me.
