Interesting article from the LA Times how people underestimated the threat from the fire erosion.



The Montecito mudslides killed at least 18 people, with five still missing, making it the deadliest flooding event in California in decades. It's likely to spark rethinking about how government agencies handle evacuations and warnings about the coming threat. Many of those killed lived in areas that were under only voluntary evacuation orders because officials didn't believe the mudslides would travel so far south toward the ocean.

"They did give people notice," Schwartz said. "But when people hear 'flash flood' they think, 'water. Maybe we'll get wet.' They are not thinking of landslides.

"I think nobody predicted the severity. Well, they did," he added. "We were just cavalier about it."

I heard Island Packers and some other companies were helping with commute issues.

The latest GFS does not bring this much moisture into SB/Ventura anymore. This basically 1/24 - 29. Current run is at .69"

These before and afters of the waterways are incredible. It reminds me very much of the aftermath of the Station Fire on the Arroyo Seco drainage by JPL and how scoured out the place became.

This has been briefly shown on news but in this article is that full 3 minute dashcam video of the patrol car being swept along in the mudflow. At the end you can see it catching up to them again. This is why we dont drive thru water in the dark kids.
