Good breeze out of the SSE, picking up.

Half an hour ago it was sunny with a steady SW breeze here. Then the clouds rolled in and the wind died down. It's now gusting out of the SE with puffy mid-level cumulus with very dark skies to the SE. Looks ominous.

Just started here as well. Big drops .. see how long this lasts.
Might be classified as rain; it's been awhile.
Dead calm wind.

Very similar to last summer's event where the golfer was struck in Catalina and the beach goers were unfortunately hit as well...
except it started later in the day and further east in the mtns. Last year it started along the coast, propogated northwest and died out near Santa Monica where it gave out its last burst of lightning.
Today they started along the sd mtns, moved NW (except got elsinore convergence as well) and again ran out of oomph along the west side of the LA basin. Had a few fat drops in thousand oaks and it got cloudy and windy but that was it.

Both were aided by large MCS' that moved west from northern mexico and collapsed

We have some MAJOR blobbage heading this way from AZ. Or maybe it's just a horde of Zonies heading to the beach for the holiday weekend. Hard to tell from the IR satellite image.

Looks like tons of rain for the desert from the I-10 to the I-40. Based on the radar I'd say moderate to heavy rain over most of the area.
