The high desert is getting more rain now with FF warnings hoisted for areas around Palmdale. That area got a lot of rain out of Delores too.

I made a last minute decision to do some storm chasing today. Took the ACH to Big Pines, then spent some time around Valyermo and Llano before heading home via the 138 and 14. I managed to intercept a few large cells out there... nearby lightning... rolling thunder... gusty winds... driving rain... pea size hail, the whole 9 yards. At the peak it looked like Bob's Gap Rd. was in danger of washing out, with several large rockslides and lots of water on the road. I saw what looked like a small lightning-caused fire on the north slope of Pallet Mountain in between storms. There was even water in the Santa Clarita River, which was bone dry when I went through the area last week.

Anyone know of a good free video hosting site? I have some footage of the rain and flooding, but I need a place to upload it.

Nice report snowtrekker! Vimeo is pretty decent but the free option can be pretty slow

Next time you think it's too hot and humid in SoCal (or just about anywhere in the world actually) just be thankful that you weren't in Bandar Mahshahr this week. The air temp was 109° and the dew point was 90! That's a heat index around 155° according to the NOAA calculator. RH was ~55%.

Talk about miserable!

There's still some potential out there. I can see build up out by Big Bear, Big Pines, Barstow, Edwards and the Tehachapi's 'all from my patio'. But I don't think it's going to happen around Palmdale again. There's a steady 20mph wind out of the SW, which will keep the build up out to the NE.

Lightning has blown up a lot of electronic equipment this last week out here in the desert.

Here's some footage of the wash that flows along Bob's Gap Rd. The first is from the narrow bit where the narrow bit where the wash runs alongside the road, during the height of the storm. The second is from further down the alluvial plain a little later.

A few surges came down that wash about 5 minutes after that video, probably doubling the flow. With more rain heading in, I decided it was a good time to get out of that area (I had crossed a few abandoned channels to get there and didn't want the wash to change course and cut me off.

There are several rain cells moving around the High Desert Antelope Valley area. Looks like Valyermo is getting it again too

I had a few nice downpours in Seal Beach this morning. Now it's just humid! But luckily the cloud cover has kept it from getting too hot...so far!
