Okay the July thread is past its expiration date. Time for a new one.

Only left Mammoth a few days ago but already looking forward to heading back up!

X post from July few hours ago..

Still seeing it on radar. Wish the Barcroft cam was working.
Did notice few days back snow level was to be around 13K today. Noticed few on radar. Whites may be white again....
This is August - Thanks

On the way home last Sunday the Whites were covered! Looks like the snow level was around 12k. Nice to see for this time of year. And yes, it was much cooler up there than expected, especially Saturday evening at Bluza. Chilly!

This morning I was awoken a little after 5:00 to the sound of raindrops on the roof and the smell of rain through our partially open slider door. Then it stopped with another brief shower around 7:30. Only reach 74° today with some dark clouds around, but no more rain downtown near my office besides a 2 minute sprinkle around 1:30 p.m. Temps are only going to reach the low 70's through the weekend with evenings in the high 40's. Feels a bit like Fall! :)

^ FYI re: the yellow willows...some are experiencing a fungus this summer. I noticed some yellow willows on a Valentine Reserve guided hike last week and we were informed about this fungus.

Quote:
The Melampsora fungus causes the fungal condition rust in willows. Typically appearing after the middle of summer, rust shows up as small yellow bumps on the underside of leaves. In late season, leaves may appear orange or brown and crusty with rust.

So, the color change is not a sign of...anything.

Wouldn't it be a sign of The Melampsora fungus?

A lot of willows and some aspens are changing early this year - I think it is the lack of water and the trees are a bit stressed. We were up in Reno and saw the changes in places all along the eastern Sierra. Or there is fungus everywhere!

Smoke to the south and smoke to the north.... clear blue skies over Mammoth Lakes.

I am liking the GFS for the start of September!
