What a nice little over achiever that came in late last night/early this morning. Our first real snow sticking on the roofs, cars and landscaping at 7,832'. Still flurrying lightly in town and a bit more on the hill.

The bad news is there are no storms on the immediate horizon before opener and the daytime temps on the hill are too warm to blow snow. The good news is three-fold: snowmaking/placement crews are blowing snow late nights/early mornings when temps and humidity permit, cat crews are working on the WROD and mid-to the top will have much better skiing/riding than the bottom!

Some friends of mine xc skied up to Minaret Vista yesterday (the road is now bermed up and closed for the season as MMSA prepares Chair 11 for opening) and they enjoyed boot-deep untracked powder turns. Time to get down my xc gear and head up there!

11/4/16 Cross country ski day #1 of the season. Skied for about 1.5 hours up 203 (Minaret Rd.) but didn't make it to Minaret Vista today. There's enough snow along the side of the road (which is closed) to ski on. A very warm day at this elevation and I was sweating! Beautiful day!!

lack of multiple "s" in the title may be jinxing this month

I don't believe in jink's. It's just good old Ma Nature doing her thing...again...bringing us a RRR (Ridiculously Resilient Ridge) and an inversion.

I'll add more "s's" to the title when there's more snow on the horizon...which isn't soon. :(

The MJO is looking good for some cool air Thanksgiving week, now we need to add snow to it. GFS 6z showing three fronts but the EC shows none right now. Time for a nice hike

Nice to see some color back on the qpf chart even if it is less than an inch for days 4-5.

Seems about that time of the year where I spend more time refreshing the charts than doing actual work

Looks like Mammoth will be lucky to get any snow this week. Instead it'll just be cold so at least they can blow snow.
