Looks like that wave just slammed into Mammoth. Dumping right now on the village cam.

Nowhere near the 3 to 5 feet in town that Howard predicted. More like 12 to 18 inches but still coming down hard. Mammoth website shows a -9° windchill at Main. Looks like they're trying to get some lower lifts open at Canyon and Eagle this morning.

It ain't over yet....

Howard sez-

The Town of Mammoth at the 8000 foot level is likely to experience 3 feet to as high as 5 feet of snowfall between Monday AM and Thursday afternoon. Again the heaviest snowfall rates are likely Tuesday night…..

Power is out in Snowcreek III. Anyone know if it's widespread? I hope not!

Power was out overnight over by Eagle but it's been on all morning.

QPF has been dialed back with basically all of this between now and Thursday morning. Not sure even that will verify though. Looking at the satellite there definitely could be one last impulse moving through this afternoon.

1/11/17 10:00 a.m. No point in going out to shovel yet as our blower driver hasn't returned since yesterday morning! It's trying to clear and we actually saw the sun peek out a little while ago, but it's still super windy. Photos from out the front door and inside our condo. Another cup of steaming mocha sounds good to me right now! We'll suit up and shovel later.

I always wondered if the snow against your windows helped insulate your place in an igloo kind of way.

Sort of, but that is because we installed double-paned windows throughout the condo many years ago. Single-paned windows would not insulate the inside of a house at all...they would probably be drafty.

I just saw a documentary on PBS channel 50 down here and it had a vole using the snow as insulation. I thought of you. :D (unfortunately it got eaten by a weasel a minute later) (I didnt think of you then)

^ LOL!

1/11/17 1:00 p.m. After 4.5 hours of shoveling snow and unburying the Honda (the Land Cruiser will have to wait until the weekend), we are beat up from the feet up! The great news is our blower driver was switched to an old friend who knows and understands the special parameters of blowing snow in our driveway and he did a great job! Once I got my car out I ran a few quick errands around 3:30 and snapped some more photos of what part of town looks like under all this snow. Round #4 is here!
