Tonight's animated loop of the next storm series. The GFS is wobbling a little on the very end of the period so I didnt include that. The AR moves faster and is followed by cold air sooner so it shouldnt be as rainy as the one last week. Lots of cold snow in the forecast.

(It only loops 6x then you have to refresh.)

I wanted to mention this but then the GFS sort of took it out of this run:

Longer Range:

All global models are forecasting a strong MJO to develop later next week in phase 1 of the RIMM. The MJO is a the Madden Julian Oscillation and is highlighted by tropical forcing. It is like a cattle prod to the Atmosphere. In the Winter when the MJO is strong and in the right phases, it can modulate the westerlies and extend the east Asian jet to the west cost. Before it does, often times, the classic signature of the Gulf of AK block develops. Look for the block to redevelop again during the last week of January. Heaven help us if it does!….

Dr Howard and the Dweebs………………………….:-)

On the 18Z run on the very last frame (which makes it tenuous) it did actually show a very strong flow straight across the Pacific all the way from Asia around the 28th. It backed off on this 00Z run but it should be watched.

I am coming up the exact same time frame. I don't understand all that weather talk either. I am particularly watching the weather for Wed night/Thursday AM as that is when we are traveling up from the LA area.

I don't get all this weather-speak either, but I'm glad people put it up/out there.
I use this link to see what the upcoming weather may be like - click on the arrows on the left to scroll forward/backward 16 days in 12-hour windows...
