From today's Stu's News...the birthday girl should be very happy about this news! ;)

Who me, or was that some other random birthday girl? Yes, we'll be skiing tomorrow, and probably through Thursday this week.

Not sure when our next trip will be. Hope to make 2 or 3 more before closing day. Have one planned with some Diva friends in late July.

Happy Birthday, sb4e!! :^: :music: Hope you made some fun turns!

Wish I could join you this week, but won't be able to. Have a busy Monday and Tuesday then we leave for Reno Wed.-Sat. for yet another minor SG surgery.

Very localized storm with a small pocket of cold air.
That's why you need to be prepared when heading into the mountains even on a sunny 72 degree day. You could be sweating and getting sunburned one minute and then you walk around a rock and suddenly you find yourself in whiteout blizzard conditions. Always be prepared! :!:

Rain and high elevation snow north of Yosemite today. Cooler days ahead for the weekend.

Incredibly windy returning home from Reno today...white knuckle driving! An Amazon truck blew over near Blue Canyon. Still very gusty and rockin' the condo occasionally. The hill is going to see some freezing temps so conditions may be quite firm in the early mornings on the hill.

*hard as see-ment*

Even though there have been those little heatwaves, does it seem unusually cooler than normal for May into June?

I thought it seemed a little bit warmer than usual for May. If I recall the spring of 2011 (the last big snow year) was much cooler than this year. Of course since I only go up there periodically, someone who lives up there all the time (like SL) would have a much more realistic perspective.

A wind chill of 16° and gusts up to 98mph in the last 24 hours doesn't sound joyful.

Ah but it helps slow down the melt!

Our neighbor, who is the head poodle of ski school, said the runs off 23 after it opened today around 11:30 were wonderful. It was a bit windy and chilly for our annual HOA meeting by our pool this morning though!

Looks like it's snowing a bit on the summit right now.

Might be a nice day to take some pictures with ever changing weather and lighting.

Mind you this is Reno's Disc. No mention of snow in Hanford's current disc.

"Recent forecasts over the last 24 hours have trended a bit slower
with the precipitation. A good portion of the precipitation in
the Sierra will still occur during the day today, but it is
looking more likely that some precipitation will continue after
sunset tonight which will give the snow a better chance of
sticking to the ground and accumulating at lower elevations in the
6000-7000' range.

Very cold air aloft will create an environment ripe for
thunderstorms and convective snow/snow pellet showers today
. This
will have 2 distinct effects on the weather today. First it will
drive cold snow pellet showers down to around 5500 feet at times.
Second, it will create a very off and on precipitation environment
where you might see sun for a short while, and then BAM, snow
again."
