Calling for snow Sunday? NWS says snow level may fall to 6000'.

...Snow is looking more and more likely for the Sierra Saturday night
into Sunday as a strong secondary cold front moves into the area.
The forecast trend continues to be for colder and wetter conditions
dropping farther south into the region. The cold air associated with
this late season (summer) storm will be cold enough to potentially
drive snow showers below 6000 feet Saturday night into Sunday.
Accumulating snow of up to 2-4 inches will be possible above 7000
feet around the Tahoe Basin, with a 1/2 inch or so possible all the
way down to elevations as low as 6000 feet. Higher elevations in
northeast California could see as much as 4-8 inches of snow.

How much impact there will be to mountain passes will depend heavily
on the timing of the heaviest snow showers. Currently much of the
precipitation is forecast during the day on Sunday. With the high
sun angle this time of year snow will have a difficult time sticking
to roads during the day, and if it does, it will quickly melt off as
soon as the heavy snow showers stop. The greatest chances for
slippery roads will probably be Sunday night when snow showers will
have the best chance to stay frozen, or refreeze onto roads.

Confidence is well...let`s just say it`s tough to be confident about
accumulating snow in June!
Looking at past snow events in June
following big snow years, accumulating snow down to 6000 feet is
definitely a possibility under the right circumstances, and this
storm is going to give us that chance again.

Thunderstorms will be a possibility on Sunday throughout the r

Tidbit of info from Reno this AM

A strong low pressure dropping out of eastern Pacific will bring
rain and mountain snow showers along with much colder temperatures
to the region today. Wait, what month is it? June...right. For
context, the Sierra does see snow showers in June approximately every
3 to 5 years or so. Measurable snow in Tahoe City (6200') happens
about every 5 to 10 years, and often occurs after very active
Winters like 2016/17. So, this will be quite a shock to people who
have already adjusted to warmer Summer weather, but is not
unprecedented.

Hard to tell, but it does look like it is snowing at McCoy.
FWIW, it is raining in Huntington Beach. Not drizzle, but actual rain.

Spitting snowflakes at McCoy, but mostly foggy it seems. Light dusting and frost on the summit...you can see it on the snomo and stairway on the web cam.

49 and windy in town. Happy Juneuary! :)

Sesame is showing 1/10" and it looks like a few more hours of snow tonight. At 22° at Main Lodge the snow levels could be lower than originally forecast.

Radar is impressive for June

There were snow showers off and on while we enjoyed our anniversary dinner at The Mogul early this evening. I had to get my ice scraper out from under the seat of my car to scrape the ice drops off my windshield before driving home. (SG just took our winter blades off last Tuesday before we left for three days in Reno). I made a fire when we returned home this evening! It's currently 30 and it's still snowing at the summit.

Food porn jack...

Been snowing pretty good at our elevation. There's about 1/2" on our front porch!

Looking down our driveway toward the street...really!

So glad I didn't plant my annuals or perennials yet!

Looking at the radar Mammoth may be in for a nice wrap around snow that'll drop very light winter-like powder.
