Based on the sounding from Miramar, the atmosphere is potentially
unstable, and moist enough for thunderstorm development today. with
ample heating, expect some activity will begin over the mts later
today, then track along, or west of the crests into the early
evening. There is sufficient moisture for locally heavy rainfall in
spots, but the steering flow may keep cells moving sufficiently to
keep the threat localized. The greatest threat for flash flooding
will be over the San Bernardino County mts/deserts. There is a a
small chance for activity to track along the Elsinore Convergence
Zone as well, although current short-range model guidance suggests
that will not happen. No forecast changes.

This is unusually active for SoCal. Clouds are zooming up here too. Edit: Turbulence in the atmosphere? As I posted that a great wind has come up and altocumulus are racing across the sky.

Yeah it was so close yet so far away. Driving home on the 14 last night around 10:00 I could see flashes over the Tehachapi's
and then as I was approaching the Newhall area I could see a very active light show over what I was hoping was Orange County, it actually was a lot more distant, out past Catalina.

Still an outside maybe for rain today down here. We have a wobbler.

The lightning was amazing last night. Im at a house in Dana Point this week w ocean view. There was all sorts of bolts. Lots of cloud top stuff but some straight down lighting up the water with sustained voltage. ZZZZZZT! Some would backlight the W end of Cat.. All you wanted light show.
