I finally got a chance to explore this tonight. I watched the 200 image view and the "all images" view.
absolutely incredible!
watching the "all images" view is like watching a monster movie (staring hurricane Harvey) it's amazing watching it develop over the days. It is looming right off of Texas as the sun sets and the screen goes dark for the night.
I couldn't help but think about how a 150 years ago the people living along the coast would have no idea what was about to hit them and would be totally unprepared. They would go to bed one night with nice weather and the next night they would be in a living hell.

That was the 1900 Galveston hurricane pretty much.

Yeah, images of that one are what I was envisioning.
Back then you would have no idea what was coming, how long it would last and how intense it would get. You would just be trying to weather it out hoping the worst was over but it would just keep getting more and more intense. What a nightmare.

Think about being one of those ships out to sea and suddenly you're in a hurricane with nowhere to go.

I have to admit a hurricane is on my bucket list.

lol, yeah me too, that and a tornado among other natural disasters.
Funny how were talking about how horrible it would be yet we want to experience it in person.

Well yeah, I guess that is a fantasy but I would like to be as close as I can without being killed or hurt.
I remember reading years ago about some guy's experience where he was just closing the doors to his storm cellar when the tornado came directly overhead and he was able to look up into the center of the funnel. I don't know if the story was true or if it was just some BS but his description was surreal.

We're pretty lucky now with all the incredible videos they have of tornadoes but I still want to hear that roar in person.

If you're close enough to hear the roar then you're close enough to have shrapnel driven into your body at 200 mph. No thanks.

What? Are ya chicken? Come on, everyone's doing it.
You're afraid of a little shrapnel? At that speed you probably wouldn't even feel it, it just cut right through you.

Maybe I'll just settle for watching the videos.

The GOES-16 animation of the eye coming ashore is absolutely incredible. It's a Cat 4 storm and the barrier island are getting hammered. People have been given plenty of warning whether they chose to heed it or not.
