Thinking about doing a little storm chasing, and was contemplating driving from Mammoth to SLC. On Friday. How's the roads - anyone familiar with that drive through Benton Crossing and to Tonopah? It seems like it should not be too much snow past Tonopah (a few inches) from what I can see on weather.gov. They plow Hwy 6 regularly? Thanks

If you apllied the mileage E to a N trip I think Bachelor has more snow and more potential than slc.

One of my friends who used to travel between Olympia WA and the SF area used to complain that Oregon only had 6 plows though.

I dunno. At least for Sat and Sunday, it looks like the storm will have moved east far enough that SLC will have more freshies than Bachelor.
I guess we'll see!

Was driving up this morning - the winds are making pretty clouds.

Drove Highway 6 between Bishop and Elko (or something like that... maybe it was Ely... don't remember and too lazy to look it up) on an overnight pleasure cruise to Montana back in February 2015. Can't say they plow it regularly but there wasn't an ice problem at all and the snow only gathered in pockets at the top of the highest passes near Elko/Ely/Wherever the north-south US highway connects. Wasn't too bad.

You'll be lonely though. Averaged 89 mph, saw only one vehicle, and it still took four hours. Fill up the tank. And be safe.

Watch out for the open range. Very possible to find a cow in the road.
