Sure isnt much weather.
The tv heads are at it again spinning how nice it is. Assuring us that after a 10deg dip we'll be back into nice weather. Im empathetic and sad for those that do die in tragic mud/debris/flashflood events. The alternative or solution to mudslides is not hoping it will never rain again. The heads have been tying in Montecito -thankfully no rain for those rebuilding...

So those 14in average rainfall ytd's for SoCal locations have come w drought and flood forever in SoCal/CA. Lets ponder the 20-40in seasons to get that average. Since we have the time this season.

It used to be 384 hours. Its encouraging that its not wavering in the time period much.

The thing I have noticed about the long range GFS is while its not that bad predicting the when its not so good on the intensity. Something could come in but only spit out precip. We'll have to wait.

I will never understand how so many people absolutely hate the rain. Sure I can appreciate a beautiful warm sunny day but come on, here is SoCal we get 350 days a year like that. It's winter time for goodness sake, I've suffered through 9 months of miserable weather to get here, can't we get an occasional day with beautiful, wonderful, refreshing, cleansing rain without people freaking out because it's not a cloudless 85 degrees out. If it were up to me I would like a storm a week through out the year, it would make the warm and sunny days that much nicer. Hell, let's make it two storms a week with a nice violent one once every couple of months.

I couldn't agree with you more. A little change is good for the soul.

The 00Z put the ridge back in but also gave SoCal this funny little cutoff low.

Daniel Swain’s blog has a good summary and images of our summer in January, and what February and the rest of our winter could look like http://weatherwest.com

This description of Los Angeles rainfall :( “if the city reaches February 19th, 2018 without a significant rain event (as currently appears plausible), there will have been only a single day with more than a third (0.33) of an inch of precipitation in the preceding 365 days–a full calendar year.”

The bark beetle and dead tree problem is also not going to help the wildfire threat.

It would be the cruelest of Nature to have the only significant rainfall be the first of the season and the one that catastrophically killed those people in Montecito.
