Had to start one...
Reno this AM..snipets
"A strong winter storm is likely for Thursday and Friday as models
have been rather consistent with dropping an upper low southward
off the Pacific northwest coast. This is a favorable position for
heavy precipitation along the Sierra into western Nevada and given the
antecedent cold pattern, much of this will fall in the form of
snow.
A significant winter storm is forecast Thursday-Saturday, ranging
from strong winds and turbulence to significant snowfall."

Hohmann
06Z GFS is rather generous with the QPF through Sat. Curses out to 6.26"; highest peaks around MM.(x 10 aprox. snowfall)

Looks like it's really going to happen!
Reno this AM.

Bottom line: the next system is a major winter storm that will bring
gusty winds, heavy snow to the Sierra, and even accumulating snow
to the valleys of northeast California and western Nevada. We
strongly advise that people prepare for hazardous winter weather
conditions, Highway closures, and very long travel delays. This
storm is the most impressive that we have seen this season.

If you have been patiently waiting to read about snow totals in feet
instead of inches, then this storm will be your best chance for that
this season. The major winter storm will move into the region late
Wednesday night and stick around through Saturday. Forecaster
confidence is high for major impacts in the Sierra (and likely in
western Nevada as well) due to this winter storm.

Simulations have been in impeccable agreement over the past 5 days
with dropping a deep and cold low pressure system just off the pac
northwest coast.
Storm totals: snow amounts for Thursday-Friday-Saturday will be
around 3 to 5 feet in the High Sierra above 7000 feet, with a couple
feet of snow around the 6000 ft elevation, including Lake Tahoe.

Sacto disc. snipet -
After a break today, the next winter storm will begin to spread
precipitation into the region late Wednesday. The period of
heaviest precipitation and gusty south winds are expected on
Thursday. This upcoming storm could be one of the more substantial
snow storms in recent years, as we'll see a combination of both
low snow levels and good moisture tap (in recent years, it's been
1 or the other).

Winter storm watches have been
posted for all the foothill and mountain areas of interior norcal
above 2k feet.

Little blue spot comes out to 6.79" QPF through Sun. .... take bombtrippers snow/temp chart and do the math. Let's see if the QPF indeed verifies.

Wow the NWS really bumped up the projected snowfall for Mammoth:

Wednesday night - 1 to 3 "
Thursday - 15 to 21"
Thursday night - 17 to 23"
Friday - 12 to 18"
Friday night - snow

Storm total - 45 to 63"+

Maybe March is when this season finally starts delivering on the qpf instead of maybe getting 50%.

Should be snow in town and all the way down to the valley floors at times. Fairly high ratio snow too even though some base snow would be welcome right now.

I can hardly wait to see the gridlock on the 395 as everyone races up there for the weekend.

^^^I was thinking the same thing. Maybe alot of sliding the way people drive..
They all have to stay somewhere as an indicator. Past days vs. future...
Don't know if they update this once it has been posted, would imagine they do.

As more people become aware the next 3 days about the storm total forecast I bet the occupancy jumps.

Enjoy the epic powder the AR events are on the way soon.

I was excited about heading up this weekend but you're probably right. Groan!
I could leave town by 1:30 but I have to wait for my wife to get off and we probably won't leave until 6.
Not to mention the lift lines on Saturday with probably half the mountain not open yet. Groan!
I hope it's still storming a bit on Saturday, chase some of the people off the mountain.

Yeah, I am doing just that. However, will head up Friday afternoon early. Hope to avoid the mad house and So Cal drivers in the snow.
