Bizarre encounters threadjack.
Thats a funny coincidence boarddad. I met some BC Canucks down here in Baja S and they told a story of their daughter's search for the right weiner dog. Finally she found one after multi-province search brought it home and was playing w it running around the yard and dock. Eagle came by and took the dog right off the dock 1st hours of the first day.

I'm sure that happens a lot, much easier to catch than a rabbit or ground squirrel. I remember reading a horrific story years ago about a family on a road trip that stopped to let their toy poodle out for a potty break only to watch an eagle swoop down and snatch their dog and take it up to the top of a nearby power pole to consume. I think if that happened to me I might be found guilty of attempting to stone our national bird.

I dog sit for friends that have a 4lb tiny white toy poodle. They made it very clear that he can't be out in the backyard by himself. They live on a canyon so there's plenty of owls, hawks and coyotes that would easily make a meal out of him particularly since he looks like a rabbit with his white fur.

LOX low down snipet this evening -
A low pressure system currently about 1,000 miles west of san
fransisco will ride the northern part of the ridge and drive into
Washington on Thursday.
An elongated almost west-to-east oriented upper level trough will
form way off the West Coast on Thursday, which will pull up a
tropical airmass from southeast of Hawaii. The stalled trough will
start to move eastward on Friday, and push through central
California Saturday night...pulling a slug of this tropical
moisture with it. As a result, expect a tropical weekend with mild
temperatures and humid conditions.
With this moisture comes a
potential for rain, and widespread rain seems likely sometime over
the weekend. Being so far out, the projected track of the core
moisture will likely shift around in the coming days, which means
timing and rain amounts/intenisity forecasts should wobble around.
At this point the moisture core looks to be focused over areas
south and east of Point Conception. Several hours (6-12 hours) of
light to moderate steady rain should be expected, especially
Saturday night into Sunday. There is some southwesterly flow aloft
with this, so mountains and foothills will see the highest rain
amounts, but not nearly as much of a spread as our last rain
event as the wind speeds are just not that strong. There is an
outside chance for rainfall instensities being of concern to
recent burn areas, but thunderstorms are not expected and rain
rates in generally should be fairly light but steady through the
event. Being from a tropical origin, snow levels will be high
(around 8,000 feet and higher).

Lox this AM regarding precip for this weekend.
Hmmm...
Long term (sat-tue)...07/419 am.

"Above average confidence exists in the overall weather pattern
during the extended period, but only average confidence in the
forecast details.
"

p.s -
Hazard potential outlook (fri-tue).

"Widespread rain is likely late Saturday into Sunday. There is a
chance that the rain will be moderate to locally heavy, for six
to twelve hours. Rain rates nearing threshold for debris flow
near recent burn areas is possible."

Anybody looking at the GFS? There may be another exciting outbreak of a cold stormy pattern starting midweek next week and going thru the rest of the period.

Next weekend is looking wet for most of the state. Let's see how much it changes in the next 5 days.
