Ok now "they" say its not looking like we're swinging back anywhere. No La Nina or just a 50% chance beyond Neutral. Now is this worrysome to anyone? Will SoCal benefit any more from Neutral vs Negative? Can we trust any suspected results after the El Nino snub to 2/3 of the state? What is a Normal season like anway? Will I need chains?

All it means to me is that this winter is a toss-up. Maybe that's better than a La Niña but who really knows. Last year certainly didn't live up to the hype of the godzilla El Niño.

All I know is I am not renewing my Baldy pass this year.
If we have a great season locally you can thank me ;)

I'm not renewing my Baldy pass either. I've bought the pass the last five years and been able to use it twice. They haven't contacted me about renewing for 2017, which is odd. Their bread and butter must be the sightseeing tickets.

ya, I bailed on my Baldy pass also, first time in forever. They killed it for me when they said they were gonna charge for parking also, pure bs if you have a pass, especially with the risk pass holders take not even knowing if they are going to be able to use it.

I think they have been smart though to expand and put effort into the off season, soon to become the main season with the occasional skiing side season..

Yep, Baldy has changed into a sightseeing, snowplay destination.
I tried to hold out and support them as long as possible.
Final straw was an email response to a question I sent them months ago.
No extras this season.
No 3 day free Brianhead tickets.
That alone would have gotten me to purchase again as we do a yearly trip there.
30 dollar parking pass is insane for pass holders. Really? Where are supposed to park if not in the lot?
Enough ranting as I now will join Shifty at Snow Summit this season :)

The last few cool days were reminding me of the same thing happening in 2005 in September. Maybe the stars are in alignment - no one expects it, we will be tent camping in October, and a bunch of folks didn't get a Baldy Pass :)

That year is my favorite analog season right now.

That would a good one to have an analog unless you are in one of the climate prediction outfits where its all doom n gloom for the SW.

Its chilly and breezy in the shade. Feels like Fall. But SoCals 2nd Summer is starting. SW swell, kids in school, tourist ratio way down, stable H and a last shot offshore for/by 2NA. Then set those climate kooks on their ear.

Oh, is it time for the Native American/Indigenous Peoples/POC Summer?

Winter of 2005 was my first skiing SoCal mountains, at the time I didn't know it was an unusually good season. Imagine the disappointment over the next five+ years, lol.
