The obvious answer is when they get severely damaged and/or fail. Any other opinions?

Thinking about hanging up the first new deck I bought which will be 7 years old this April. It's still fun to ride, but I'd rather not see it become a complete beater before it goes on the wall. :geek:

My Armada JJ's will need to be retired this year since the bases are razor thin these days. They've had a good life! Time for a new pair for 2016/17!

If you can, borrow or demo a newer board. I've had boards I thought were pretty good, only to ride a fresh one and realize how much "life" had gone out of mine. If the difference isn't very much, keep shredding it. More often my reaction has been "oh man, this thing is dead". I know boards like Burton Customs (which I rode for years) were known to be beat down after about 60-70 days. YMMV.

My gear took a beating on my trip to Crested Butte this year - and the top wasn't even open!

1) Lost a screw to my Burton Cartel bindings ankle strap (shop on-hill was able to find a replacement).
2) My son was riding my second board and broke the ankle strap on my Nitro Raiden bindings (shop on-hill was able to find a "good enough" replacement strap).
3) On the way off the hill, the toe buckle fell off of one of the Nitro Raiden bindings (Going to replace them with toe-cap Burton straps I was able to find on-line, so an upgrade)
4) My Burton Custom board developed a crack under the heel of my back foot that I can only assume will get worse - much worse! I've had the board about 15 years but don't ride it all that often. PE395's estimate looks about right though. Time to look for a new board.

Would love to demo a Lib Tech and an Arbor, plus the Burton Step-ons (though those look like they need an iteration or two before they are really ready). I have no interest in the Burton boards with the slots.

That is a sudden beating.

15 years old on the Burton deck, and about how many days?

How many days on the Nitro bindings, any guess?

I’m always curious because I have a theory that putting in more days when the gear is new / closer to its manufacturing generally yields the most value. Especially boots, even if you don’t ride them that much, all the glues start to dry out and they begin falling apart after so many years.

I'm still riding my TechNine Team bindings that are 05/06 model that I picked up on Memorial Day of '06 for $25 at Wave Rave.
